Beachbody has produced many workout programs over the years. Hundreds of people have changed their lives and their bodies using these workouts. They range from boot camp style workouts to kickboxing workouts with a hip-hop flair.

P90X is a beachbody workout series developed by Tony Horton. The workout has 12 videos that are designed to get your body into the best shape ever in 90 days. Using workout routines that challenge the body with martial arts, weight lifting, and extreme yoga your body looks drastically different after even 30 days.

This workout program uses 12 workouts in a certain succession to produce great results for everyone who uses it. The way it works is through muscle confusion. When muscles get used to a certain weight or a certain routine, the muscle stops growing and so does the weight loss and calorie burning benefits. With P90X, the muscles are constantly being challenged so that you never reach a plateau but continue to burn fat.

That is the secret to its result. The program is hard but it can be mastered. It doesn’t require a lot of fancy equipment either.

Turbo Jam is another Beachbody program. It was developed by Chalene Johnson and uses cardio kickboxing and 11 signature moves to change your body. The program is fun, combining funky music with exercise routines that are anything but boring. According to the website, www.beachbody.com, some people who have done the workout burned as much as 1,000 calories an hour. Wow!

The Turbo Jam workout has evolved from the first DVD series into a program that offers extreme results. Using tools like sculpting gloves, weights, and your own body weight, the workouts transform your abs, arms, legs, and your mind. You’ll have that beach body in no time flat.

That isn’t all. Chalene Johnson has come up with another beachbody workout called Chalene Extreme. This workout combines different workout phases into one workout that changes your body. It does this with weight work, cardio intervals, and fat burning exercises so that you burn up to 60 percent more fat from your body.

Since muscle burns more than fat, when you build lean, strong muscle your metabolism changes. Everyone especially those who are in their 40s and older benefit greatly from increasing their muscle mass.

Workouts from beachbody also come with eating plans that help you to maximize the amount of weight you lose and the length of time the results actually last. Following the workout schedule and the eating recommendations are what will put you on the right track for the program to deliver what it promises.

Exercise is important for a number of reasons. It provides cardiovascular health which keeps the body looking and feeling younger. Exercise helps improve immunity and keep disease at bay. Pilates’ workouts are a part of that exercise equation.

What is Pilates? Many people think that it is just a dainty workout for people who are already in shape. These people believe it involves stretching, bending and eating celery to maintain the body, but don’t believe it has anything to do with fitness. For those who think along those lines, you might actually be surprised by the truth behind Pilates.

Pilates is a workout developed by Joseph Pilates that uses the idea of contrology. It balances the body through a series of controlled movements designed to stretch and build muscles in the body.

Anyone can do Pilates. The moves sound intimidating like the downward facing dog, but it isn’t sinister skinny people speak I promise. Your body might need a bit of time to adjust to the positions in the beginning, but that’s usually the case with any exercise routine. Those who have taken up the Pilates workout have come to love it and swear by its results.

The way Pilates was developed involved using a series of ropes and pulleys. More modern Pilates styles like the Windsor Pilates workout program don’t use such a contraption, but a mat and other small pieces of equipment to bring the amazing results some people have experienced.

The main target of Pilates is the core. Our core is the center of our body. It supports the rest of our body and resists injuries that are a result of poor muscle development in the core which includes the abdominals and the back muscles.

Pilates’ workouts keep the core muscles in mind through every movement and routine. As you work, you’ll see your stomach become shapely and defined. You can even get a six pack if you want it from the help of a workout like this. Building muscle through Pilates burns fat when combined with a decent eating plan.

Pilates has six principles that are built into the workout routines: breath, concentration, control, centering, flow, and precision. The entire body is connected and by working all of the muscle groups, the body becomes a lean machine that can handle anything.

Pilates’ classes can be taken at a gym, a private studio, or through a DVD series of workouts if you exercise at home or are limited on time. With Pilates, you won’t be running around or lifting heavy weights, but your body will get a deep workout that will change its shape. Pilates works well for people who can’t handle vigorous exercise.

Tae Bo has been around for several years. In the 80s, Billy Blanks, a former Tae Kwon Do martial arts champion brought together his martial art training and boxing to create the groundbreaking workout that is still a phenomenon 20 years later. The workout has continued to evolve to promote fitness in all shapes and sizes of people.

People who have followed Tae Bo since the beginning are still getting their money’s worth from the workout. Not only does the kickboxing portion ramp up the heart rate, but the kicks and punches also build muscle and burn fat. It is a total body workout that is suitable for men, women, young and old.

Tae Bo videos and DVDs are sold in major stores all over the country and online at Blanks’ website, www.taebo.com. The workouts begin with a warm up and a stretch which is crucial to any workout. Beginning workouts demonstrate the moves in slow motion and then in time with the music so that everyone can get used to moving their body in these ways. More advanced workouts follow when you master the beginning videos.

Through each workout, Billy Blanks performs the moves with the class and talks the audience through each move, encouraging everyone to continue and not give up. He combines his faith with his fitness expertise to get even the most sedentary people off of the couch and moving their bodies.

The Tae Bo series continued with Tae Bo Boot Camp®. These DVDs are meant to combine resistance bands with cardio boxing moves to ramp up your fitness level. The routines are demonstrated slowly and then you move faster for fitness.

Tae Bo also has a series entitled Tae Bo Amped®. These series of routines use a weighted resistance bar to add weight to the workout for muscle building. Periods of intense cardio are mixed with kickboxing routines for increased fat burning.

The latest DVD series is Tae Bo T3®. Each new series adds another component to the kickboxing moves to enhance fitness and keep the body constantly changing. No two routines are the same and with this type of workout, tapes and DVDs can be alternated for an entire week of great workouts that won’t become monotonous. You are encouraged to perform a different workout five to seven days a week with a day or two off for rest.

On the Tae Bo website, fans can find workout schedules to help them alternate for muscle confusion and to avoid boredom. With any of the workout programs you purchase, there is an eating plan included to maximize results.

Tae Bo workouts do not use professional fitness trainers, but real people, to demonstrate the workout. They sweat just like you do. Billy Blanks keeps the workouts fresh and motivating so that participants will continue until they reach their goals.

The American Heart Association wants to keep you moving. Heart disease doesn’t happen overnight. Instead we help it along with poor nutrition, high cholesterol, and a sedentary lifestyle. Find out about the AHA exercise programs that promote physical activity at every age for the health of your heart.

Choose to Move®

This is a 12 week fitness program promoted by the American Heart Association. The program is designed to show people how to get started with physical exercise and slowly increase it to a level that will be beneficial to their health. Getting physical everyday reduces the risk of heart disease and other conditions associated with it.

You can sign up for the program at the American Heart Association website where registration is free. As a participant, you’ll receive a handbook, biweekly emails containing fitness and activity tips, information on heart disease, and motivational emails to help you stick with it. The program also promotes a healthy eating regimen to help you lose weight and lower your risk factors for heart disease.

When the program is complete you will be able to sustain the results you have achieved. By the end, you will be performing at least 30 minutes of exercise at least five days a week, making better food choices to promote health, and learning to engage in more intense exercises for variety.

Choose to Move can be started as a family, with a social group, or done alone. It begins at your current level of physical activity and proceeds according to your needs making it great for young people and people of advanced age.

Start!®

This workout program is also recommended by the American Heart Association. It is a walking workout geared towards those who spend a lot of time in the workplace. As our jobs require less and less movement and longer and longer hours, we are less inclined to perform physical activity. The world is becoming more sedentary and overweight each and every day.

According to most health professionals, walking is one of the best forms of exercise. It gets your heart rate up and works the entire body at one time. Walking can be done anywhere and you can easily fit the activity into any schedule. It is easy and has great benefits.

The hardest part for most people is getting started. This walking workout encourages companies to get their employees moving. Healthier employees mean lower insurance costs and medical bills.

All the company has to do is set up the program and offer it to their employees. Employers will receive a guide to help the company program administrator keep everyone on the right track. Walking trails are set up and marked at work so employees can use them on their lunch hour or whenever they have spare time.

The American Heart Association wants to see the incidence of heart disease decrease and physical activity increase. Both of these workouts are geared towards doing just that. Check them out at www.heart.org.

The biggest problem area of our bodies is our midsection. Many people, especially women, want to be able to wear a variety of clothing of their choosing and be able to show off the midriff area when the weather gets warm. With this workout, you can begin getting your abdominal muscles in great summer shape.

Our lives are so busy that we barely have time to eat let alone exercise. We do manage to find time to eat but it is often the wrong things or at all the wrong times (midnight snack anyone?). This workout will improve the look of your midsection and the rest of your body as well. The exercises for your abs are combined with cardio intervals to raise your heart rate and burn fat.

The 21 Minute Abs Makeover has six exercises for designed just for the abdominals. The abdominals are divided into three parts: the upper, the lower, and the oblique which are the abdominal muscles on both sides of your body. A good workout for the abs includes exercises that will work every part of your midsection creating a balanced look. If you just work the upper abs, you’ll end up with a four pack of abs, a pooch below the belly button, and love handles – not a good look for anyone.

Each abs exercise is performed for a certain number of repetitions and then you quickly move to the next in the set. After each exercise is performed, it’s time for the cardio portion of the workout. For two minutes you perform a high intensity routine like jumping rope or a kickboxing move such as front or rear kicks. To some that may not seem like much, but two minutes can feel like a lot longer time than it is when you’re moving fast.

After the two minutes is up, the process begins again. You perform the abs exercises again and the two minute cardio burst a second and a third time. The entire workout is supposed to take 21 minutes. At first it will probably take you longer until you get used to the workout and the various moves associated with each part of the routine.

Along with any workout, eating healthy is the other half of the work that will bring the best results. Following a plan that advocates eating fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains will keep you from being hungry while whittling the fat away from those fabulous looking abs you are working so hard to develop.

The 21 Minute Abs Workout is designed to fit into any schedule no matter how chaotic and full it might be. The abs muscles don’t need to rest like other muscle groups when you do weight bearing exercises. This workout can be done every day when you have about half an hour to spare. It can produce positive results when done consistently and coupled with healthy eating patterns.

Everyone needs exercise in their life. Exercise keeps our heart and lungs in shape and promotes longevity. But, exercise can be hard on the joints, especially older joints. If you don’t want to ruin your body while you are trying to get in shape, try water workouts.

Even if you can’t swim, water workouts can benefit you. The body feels differently in the water. If you’ve ever swam or played around in the water, you’ll notice that your legs feel like lead when you try to pull yourself out.

Each time you move around in the water you are actually displacing the weight of the water and giving your body a workout. Someone turned that into a workout that is easy and non-jarring for the joints but still gives a total body workout.

Water aerobic workouts can be done in a few ways. Perform the moves on your own in a community pool, use a water aerobics DVD at your backyard pool, or take a water aerobics class at your gym or the YMCA. The moves are not hard to learn and you’ve probably done them before.

The same workouts that you perform in an aerobics class can be adapted for the pool. Water aerobics can seem like more fun than a workout, but just wait until you try to step out of the pool!

Classes usually begin with a warm up in the water consisting of running in place or slowly swimming a few laps. If you can’t swim, don’t worry. You can wear a flotation belt around your waist or use flotation boards to keep your balance and your head above water.

Most of the moves are performed in waist deep to shoulder deep water. Standing on the bottom of the pool is permitted and you get the same workout. Using flotation devices, you can perform the moves without touching the bottom of the pool which works the abdominal muscles even harder as you try to maintain your balance.

Water aerobics are great for the entire body. Muscles get a workout as you move against the force of the water. Spongy water dumbbells are also used for upper body workouts and as balancing tools. The dumbbells look like toys out of the water and can have one or more sponge weights on each end. Once those weights are held underwater, they feel more like twenty pounds instead of twenty ounces.

Water aerobics will raise your heart rate and give you a good weight workout. You’ll think that this workout isn’t vigorous enough because you aren’t getting overheated and sweating but you’d be wrong. Water workouts are one way that people with joint problems or other limitations can still get a meaningful workout.

Remember when you first learned to ride a bike? You had a helmet and training wheels. Well, if you use spinning workouts to get in shape, the training wheels will definitely need to come off.

For those who don’t know, spinning is an aerobic cycling workout. The classes are usually held in a studio with at least twenty or more stationary bicycles. They look more like a standard bike in a stationary rack than the usual stationary bike you’d see at the gym. Spinning takes cycling to an all new level.

The instructor leads the class through a grueling cycling workout for anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes. It would be boring to sit on a bike for an hour even in a room with upbeat music and other people. In most gyms, classes are offered at least three days a week so those using spinning workouts for fitness get their optimum amount of workouts done each week.

The participants start with a slow warm up on the bike. Then the cycling gets faster and faster. There is a tension knob on the cycle to simulate hills and mountains. Class members don’t just sit on the seat and happily bike away either. They stand and pedal, squat and pedal, and alternate squatting and standing while they pedal up hills and down hills.

This type of interval training is quite effective. Cycling under great tension in a standing position works the quadriceps, hamstrings, gluteus, and calf muscles. Alternating every five or ten minutes with a much faster downhill aerobic period, will increase the amount of calories burned and build muscle.

Spinning is one of the hottest workouts today. You give your heart and your lower body a great workout. A monitor on the bikes lets you track your mileage, speed, and calories burned.

If you’ve never taken a spin class, begin with a basic class. It will get you used to riding a bike for fitness. Don’t be fooled into thinking that just because you’ve ridden a bike before that this class will be easy. Anyone can ride a stationary bike. Cycling at a high intensity rate for the sake of fitness is another story altogether.

Here are a few things to note about spinning. First, if you plan on pursuing this as a fitness workout, buy a gel seat cover. Those bike seats are extremely small and very hard. Sitting for an hour on one will make you quite sore not to mention the pain in your lower body from the workout.

Also, try classes from several different instructors. A complaint about spinning is the repetition of the routine. If one instructor sticks with the same routine, change instructors in order to actually keep burning the fat.

Spinning is an extreme form of cycling that provides an intense lower body aerobic workout. Standing up on the bike also gives the arms some action. If you are looking to increase your fitness level, this class will whip you into shape.

If you think that exercise has to be grueling to be beneficial, then you need to think again. Have you ever noticed what the body of a dancer looks like? They are tight, slim, and toned. Try dancing workouts to get into shape.

There are a variety of dancing classes you can take that will promote a healthy heart, mind, and body. Each class gives you a total body workout while making it fun and interesting for everyone. Here are some of the dancing workouts you can get involved with.

1.	Zumba – This dance craze is sweeping gyms all across the country. Zumba is a mix of Latin dances like salsa, cumbia, and merengue, along with hip-hop, and swing moves. The class uses upbeat music to get you sweating and your heart pumping. The moves work the entire body especially the abs and you don’t notice because you are having so much fun.

2.	Hip-Hop Dancing - It keeps all of those dancers on stage in shape. The moves center on shaking your butt and moving those hips from side to side. Switching your hops requires strong abs muscles which become even leaner and stronger with the moves. You’ll sweat and enjoy some great music.

3.	Belly Dancing - This workout is geared towards the midsection and the hips. It is hard to get only your waist to move, but over time you’ll get the hang of it.

Have you ever watched The Biggest Loser? If it reminds you of the military, you are not alone. The instructors seem relentless but they get results, just like drill sergeants in the military. This type of workout is called a boot camp workout and it does work.

Why would anyone want to do such a thing? Boot camp workouts get results, plain and simple. The combination of calisthenics and muscle building exercises done in rapid succession over a short period of time brings the positive outcome that many fitness programs don’t. You may feel like your heart is ready to leap out of your chest but the workout is changing your body.

Boot camp workouts are offered at gyms, private studios, and on DVDs you can work along with at home. If you are new to boot camp workouts but willing to try them, get instruction from a gym or sign up for private classes. The workouts are intense and before starting any workout program, get checked out by a doctor to make sure you are up for it.

The high intensity of these workouts is what draws people to them. If you are physically able to handle the workout, you will get an education in military style exercise. The challenge is being able to make it through the entire class. Moves in these types of fitness routines include drills like mountain climbers, pushups, jumping jacks, running laps, and much more.

If you want to try out the workout on a more human friendly level, choose a DVD. Tae Bo® has a boot camp program that uses aerobic boxing and tae kwon do moves in a boot camp fashion to whip your body into shape – fast.

What makes boot camp workouts so challenging (besides the instructor yelling at you) is that most of the exercises use your own body’s weight. The more you weigh, the harder the moves will be. Use your heart rate as a guide in this type of workout program. If you can barely speak, then you can hardly breathe.

Take it down a notch in intensity but continue with the workout as best you can. Stopping encourages you to give up and quit and that’s not the way to achieve better fitness. You may be sore after the first class but continue to attend at least three to five days a week. Most private classes have a set schedule. Even DVD boot camp workouts ask you to follow a certain schedule for best results.

Boot camp workouts are not for the faint of heart. If you doctor says it is okay, your instructor will be sure not one minute of the class is wasted. You may crawl out on your hands and knees, but your body will thank you.

It might be one of the strangest pieces of fitness equipment, but you can get a good workout using it. The BOSU ball total body workout offers your body a challenge. Continue to read this article to start learning more about this workout.

The BOSU ball is a balance trainer. It looks like half of an exercise ball in a frame but it is actually quite effective. Have you ever tried to stand on an exercise ball? This is what it’s like to stand on a BOSU and balance.

Exercising on a BOSU ball works the entire lower half of the body as well as the biceps, triceps, chest, and abs. Those areas amount to all the major muscle groups in your body. Begin the experience with a warm up and a stretch. BOSU workouts are harder than they look so take it easy.

Cardiovascular exercises can be done on the BOSU ball. Find your balance in the center of the ball. Then, jump up and down, maintaining your balance each time you land. You can also jump on and off the ball.

Now that your heart rate is up, you can switch to weight work using the ball. Triceps dips can be performed on the ball side while pushups are usually done on the flat side of the BOSU. Holding the sides of the bottom, you have to balance your body in order to perform the exercise. Starting with knees on the ground helps you find your center on the BOSU before performing straight leg pushups.

The lower body is challenged on the BOSU with exercises like lunges and squats. Squats can be done standing on the ball with or without weights. For lunges, you can lunge onto the ball or perform reverse lunges from the ball to the floor. With each exercise, the abs stay tight for posture and to keep you from falling off the ball.

Just like with an exercise ball, abs exercises can be performed on the BOSU. Sitting below the top of the ball, you can perform upper body crunches. Sitting on the top of the ball is better for V sit ups when you bring your knees up into your chest to work the lower abs and while doing your upper body crunches also.

In class or using a DVD, a variety of cardio routines can be implemented with the BOSU trainer. It provides a good workout for the entire body, especially the abs since they work overtime to just to keep you balanced.
